Welcome to the land of wishful reading. What is it that you wish you had read, but you didn't? That's a good place to begin. There are no rules in being well read. The only rule is to devote at least a half hour to reading each day. I want you to exercise too. If your job has you read all day, this doesn't count. You must read for yourself in this precious half hour. To play along with this concept, reading blogs doesn't count either. I'm talking about reading books. Books that were on reading lists long ago, but you cheated a bit in school by reading the cliff notes. Books that are obscure, and books that are common place. Already a great reader, great! Share with us something you would recommend.
Need help in choosing? Check out these books at the library: Any of the Nancy Pearl Book Lust books, a good almanac, or if interested in Fiction, "Genreflecting." Read books about books or books by readers who love books. Like biographies? Browse your local library by searching the subject keyword "biography," which is used as a common subject subheading in most library subject heading authorities. Search by last name and biography for specific results. While you are at it, let us know what you are reading.

How about Alexis De Tocqueville's "Democracy in America." There's a good example!
Kevin Follet's World Without End is fascinating. It blends just enough History with adventure and romance to draw in any type of reader.
I like to read historical fiction. So far my favorite author is Tracy Chevalier but now I have finished all her books. I am also working on reading Phillipa Gregory's books (most well-known for writing The Other Boleyn Girl). Write now I'm reading A Slowly Tilting Planet but it is a little slow for me. Not sure I will read the rest of her books.
I hope to get back to Aston's Darcy series over the winter break. I'm a real Jane Austen, or actually any happy ending book, follower. I just named my new dog Mr. Darcy :-)

Ken Follett's "World Without End" is one of our online audio books and one of the popular titles at the Germanna Daniel Technology Center.
Find in our online catalog, the VCCSlinc. The online book requires software download at home of Overdrive media. Loan time is 2 weeks. It expires automatically, but can not be checked in. The DTC copy is a print copy, that you can check out for three weeks.
Michelle Sagara is a great author too. Vicky Petterson isn't bad ether. Does Manga count too? It is reading but with a few more pictures.
I enjoy reading plays. Especially Tom Stoppard, but I just requested Neil LaBute's "Reasons to Be Pretty" and I'm excited about checking that out. I'll also be reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini (not a play) for a clas in the spring.
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a wonderful book to listen to, because of the pronunciation. We have at our library along with the print copy of the book. Enjoy sometime.
